Mónica Vedia

On October 12th & 13th, Mónica Vedia from TaikoMon, Madrid will come to our dojo and host a series of workshops. Participants will be able to get to know more about her taiko philosophy, learn the piece Taiko Matsuri, play naname-style, and focus on 'stage presence' in taiko.

Program

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th

10.00 - 12.30 : Taiko & Theater : TaikOn Stage
In this workshop, learn about the importance of physical expression and stage presence during your taiko performance, and gain more insight into what is needed to tell a story through taiko.

13.30 - 16.00 : The Taiko Piece : Matsuri Daiko I
In this workshop, we will learn the basics of playing in the naname style in combination with the piece "Matsuri Daiko." Naname means something like "diagonal," so we will be playing the taiko from a diagonal angle.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13th

10.00 - 12.30 : Taiko & Theater : OROSHI
By playing a simple rhythm called "Oroshi," we will work on listening to each other in the moment. We will focus on dynamics both individually and in pairs or small groups, and by experimenting with the intensity and speed of the rhythm, we aim to expand our awareness of our taiko playing by truly listening to one another.

13.30 - 16.00 : The Taiko Piece : Matsuri Daiko II
In this workshop, we will build on what we learned on Saturday about our naname playing and continue to work on mastering the piece "Matsuri Daiko.
